Kevin Sullivan Night |

| Kevin Sullivan Night at Highland High School Friday January 23rd, 2009
Gilbert High will be hosting Highland High on Friday Jaunary 23rd, 2009. The girl’s varsity game will kick off at 5:00pm and the boy’s varsity game will start at 7:00pm. It is fan appreciation night at Highland High, as we will let fans in for free. The real reason for the adjusted price is to give help to a coach in need. If you know the story behind Kevin Sullivan you are aware of his situation. If not: Kevin is a die-hard soccer person that has given his time and dedication to the game and to the kids of this community. He is a tireless worker and an extremely devoted coach and father. Kevin is the kind of person that makes the people around him better, which makes him an ideal coach. Kids respect him and parents feel fortunate to have their kids in his world even if just for a few hours a week. As a coach in the Mesa Soccer Club and at Mountain View High School, Kevin has impacted our small soccer community by teaching kids the right way to play the game and how to become solid young men in the process. Kevin has been an official, coach, parent and player in our soccer community. I am hoping we as a community can help out a friend in need.
Kevin was diagnosed with Leukemia and has been battling through chemotherapy and a bone marrow transplant for the last four months. His wife has been taking off time from work to attend to Kevin and his long stays in the hospital. Kevin would never ask for help. Our programs are joining together in this effort to help out, and we are asking our Gilbert soccer community to come out to the games on Tuesday night and donate some money to a worthy cause. We would like to thank Highland High School for agreeing to participate and allowing for us to play both Varsity games back to back. All proceeds from concession and gate will go directly to Kevin Sullivan. Mary Ellen Kurish from the Gilbert boys program and Sheree Cannis from the Gilbert girls program will be running donation tables at the games.
Mesa United Soccer Club has information on any upcoming fundraisers to assist "Sully" with the costs that are part of his battle with Leukemia. Kim Watson will be running donation tables at the game so please come show your support for a worth cause and enjoy some great High School Soccer.
All the best, Coach Barmettler
