The History of Gilbert Soccer Club |

The Gilbert Soccer Club (GSC) was created in 1992 as an offshoot of the Gilbert Youth Soccer Association (GYSA). GYSA recognized the need in the community to create a place where the highly advanced players could develop and test their skills against the best players throughout Arizona. It was slow going in the first few years, but in the last four years the club has grown to over 40 competitive teams with almost 700 players. Most of these players go on to play for the local high schools and many will then continue on to play in college.
GSC has won 9 state championships in the last 5 years; 3 in 2006 alone! In 2006 the club sent 4 teams to the US Youth Soccer Western Regional Tournament. In addition, many GSC players have been selected over the years to participate in the US Youth Soccer Olympic Development Program.
GSC teams travel out of state and compete against the best the country has to offer. Several teams are ranked regionally and nationally. The professional coaching staff includes former college players, most with national level coaching licenses. Many of these coaches also coach local high school and community college soccer teams and have played professionally. Many GSC players are former GYSA players and now play soccer year round. GYSA and GSC work closely together to ensure that every youth player in Gilbert has the chance to reach their potential on the soccer field and in life.
Gilbert Youth Soccer Association (GYSA) has been serving youth soccer in Gilbert for 20 years as a non-profit corporation whose sole purpose is to administer a soccer league for the children of Gilbert and surrounding communities. GYSA is a parent-based volunteer organization whose aim is to encourage the growth of soccer. We believe that, although everyone engaged in sporting competition should have a desire to win, that desire should not be pursued to the detriment of sportsmanship, fair play, and participation. Financial support for our programs comes from registration fees, which pay for uniforms, insurance, and referee expenses; and businesses and individuals who "Sponsor" a team, which pay for field maintenance, equipment, tournament fees, players who are unable to pay their registration fees, and other league expenses.
Our Soccer program falls into the category of recreational teams (ages 4-17). The recreational program is based on a philosophy that everyone plays 50% of the time, regardless of their level of skill or ability to pay. GYSA provides training clinics for the coaches and players and a support network is in place to help with any problems that may arise.
GYSA is dedicated to providing a high quality soccer program for the youth of our community. Our sponsors, fund raisers and other community support help to make this possible. Join us, and together we can accomplish our goals
