Arsenal Teams Move On In State Cup PDF Print E-mail

staecuplogo.gifArizona State Cup competition is drawing to a close and there remain four Arsenal teams who are assured of placing in the top 3 in AZ. The Arsenal 93 Premier Boys and the Arsenal 91 Premier Boys, neither team with a loss, will play on Saturday 5/10 in the final game for the undefeated teams in their respective age groups. The Arsenal 90 Boys and the Arsenal 92 Girls, despite having each lost one game, are still in the hunt for a championship. They will play on Saturday 5/10 in games that decide who finishes in 3rd place and who moves on the championship games.

Please plan to come out and cheer for the Arsenal players in their games on Saturday at Reach 11. These are some very exciting games to watch!

The Arsenal 91 Premier Boys will play in Tucson, Silverlake Park at noon. Come on down if you get a chance; they would appreciate lots of Gilbert fans on the sideline!

Congratulations to the Arsenal 91 Premier Girls and the Arsenal 94 Premier Girls on their 4th place finishes in State Cup!

 
Gilbert Soccer Club Welcomes Blair Quinn PDF Print E-mail

Gilbert Soccer Club is proud to welcome Blair Quinn as a member of our goalkeeper coaching staff. Blair currently is on staff at Arizona State University with the women’s soccer program as an assistant coach. His primary focus is working with their goalkeepers.

Blair brings to the Arsenal program several years of coaching experience both at the college and club levels and holds a USSF “B” license as well as an NCSAA State and Regional Goalkeeper Diploma. He has been a part of the college staff programs at Loyola Marymount, University of Kansas, Johnson County Community College and Rockhurst University.

Blair also brings with him both college and professional playing experience. He played at Rockhurst University from 1994 through 1996 where he earned NAIA First Team All-American and NSCAA Second Team All-American Honors.  Blair moved on and played professionally beginning with the Tallahassee Scorpions (EISL) followed by the Sacramento Knights of the WISL. He spent some time with the Arizona Thunder (WISL) before ending his career with the Kansas City Comets (MISL).

Blair is looking forward to working with the players at the club. Blair commented, “I’m excited about getting back into club coaching again, especially in the Valley. Gilbert Soccer Club is going in the right direction making all the right moves. I am glad to be a part of the club.”

Blair is an outstanding addition to the Gilbert Soccer Club coaching staff.  We welcome Blair not only to the Gilbert Soccer Club, but to the Arsenal family. If you get a chance, stop by and welcome him while at the fields.

The time to watch two evenly matched teams engage in excellent play and hard fought battles can be very exciting. This type of match was witnessed on Saturday as the 93 Premier boys faced off against Tuzos Interamerica in a second round match.

This was a rematch from last year’s State Cup in which Tuzos brought an end to the two time defending state champion’s season. This was a match that the team had been looking forward to the entire year.

Jason Green Pursues New Opportunity PDF Print E-mail

jgreen.pngJason Green has resigned as the Assistant Director of Coaching for Gilbert Soccer Club in order to take a coaching position at the University of Wyoming at Laramie. Jason has been with GSC for 4 years and has been instrumental in developing the Speed/Technical training program, keeper training, and assisting Director of Coaching Tim Barmettler in countless other areas. Jason could be found most nights at the soccer complex, supervising specialty training or working with coaches and players.
